Step up and join CCYD staff and friends as we run, jog, walk or do a little of each at the 7th Annual Sowebo Landmark 5k on Sunday, October 1, 2017. The Sowebo Landmark 5K aims to unite neighbors, families, schools, and local resources to empower our youth to be active, eat well, and lead healthy lives. In recent years, CCYD has developed an active and expanded presence in southwest Baltimore communities with a range of programs and services offered from the UMD Community Engagement Center to Carroll Park.
At the intersection of healthy living and diverse community engagement, this 7th Annual 5K event highlights the best of Southwest Baltimore’s communities, schools, parks, people, and landmarks. The race course begins in Union Square Park and runs past the Hollins Market and Irish Railroad Workers Museum, takes participants right through the B&O Railroad Museum and down into Carroll Park before winding its way back to Union Square Park for the finish.
Medals are awarded in dozens of male and female age categories and there are prizes and give-a-ways for all participants. Registration is free for youth under 16 and all those youngsters who finish will receive a medal as well. This family-friendly event is open to runners and walkers, as well as folks pushing strollers.
Proceeds from the race support youth programs through the Southwest Baltimore Charter School and the Chesapeake Center for Youth Development (CCYD).
