Docs in the Park (DITP) is a community-wide Baltimore public health initiative begun in 2011. The goal is to combine the efforts of physicians and the resources of urban parks, recreation, and nature communities as a potentially powerful tool to combat obesity, the occurrence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and other health related issues.

CCYD will utilize the DITP model to create concentrated programming for improved health in the underserved south and southwest Baltimore communities with expanded access to healthy foods and increased knowledge of and organization of outdoor programming.
The project’s structure is intended to inspire and support the creation of active communities raising healthy kids and make our parks and open spaces celebrated places of community enjoyment.

DITP Partners:

  • Baltimore City Recreation and Parks
  • SOWEBO Running and Walking Club of MD
  • Filbert Street Community Garden
  • American Academy of Pediatrics Children and Nature Task Force
  • Baltimore Heritage
